Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished seventh in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. The result gives Earnhardt and his No. 88 Nationwide team their fourth consecutive finish of 12th or better and their third top-10 in that same four-race stretch.

From the drop of the green flag, the No. 88 began climbing through the field from the 20th starting position. When the competition caution waved after 30 laps, Earnhardt had moved up to 16th and he added another position in the 50 laps to follow to end the first stage in 15th.

Earnhardt and crew chief Greg Ives continued improving the Nationwide Chevrolet during stage two as he made his way to as high as 11th at one point. By the end of the stage, Earnhardt was scored 13th.

The final stage was much of the same for Earnhardt and company as the No. 88 ran just outside the top 10 before a multi-car accident on the back stretch at Lap 198. Earnhardt had just restarted 14th when the crash unfolded. Quick maneuvering by the veteran driver allowed him to escape the incident unscathed and propelled the Nationwide Chevrolet into the top 10.

Over the final 63 laps, Earnhardt ran as high as fifth before ultimately finishing the 400-mile race in seventh.

Martin Truex Jr. claimed his seventh victory of the season over Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin.
